If a creature were to be petrified into a material such as some type of crystal and while petrified had the resources and time to grow more crystal, what would happen if they were un-petrified?
Well, according to the rules a Petrified creature "ceases aging," and arguably growth of more crystal is a way crystals age, so it could be said that the extra crystal couldn't have formed in the first place.
