So I have a bit of confusion for the Hexblade and pack of the blade combo, part of the hex warrior class ability says you can't use a weapon with the two handed property, but then it says "If you later gain the Pact of the Blade feature, this benefit extends to every pact weapon you conjure with that feature, no matter the weapon's type." Would that mean you can now summon and use a great sword for your hex weapon? And would it work for a magical weapon you turned into your pact weapon?
It's tough to remember, because not only do you have to basically imagine a Venn Diagram with three circles: Hexblade, Pact of the Blade (POB), and Improved Pact Weapon (IPW) to figure out what weapons each feature is talking about... but then also you've got an "all squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares" situation going on, with Hexblade extendings its benefits to POB weapons that weren't Hex weapons, but POB not extending its benefits to Hex weapons that aren't POB weapons. Oof.
Hexblade: any"weapon that you are proficient with and that lacks the two-handed property."
Attacks with Charisma
Requires being touched after a long rest, every day.
POB: any "melee weapon" [+any magic weapon that is not artifact/sentient? ( RAI unclear if ranged OK, including ranged weapons not eligible for IPW) ]
Counts as magical
Counts as proficient
Disappears when more than 5 feet away for 1 minute
Can be dismissed (free) and summoned (action)
Can take the form of any POB-eligible weapon when summoned [including changing form of magic weapons to new weapon type? (RAI unclear if always OK (e.g. Hammers of Sharpness), or only OK for valid weapon types, or even not RAI for magic weapons at all)]
Requires a 1 hour ritual (can be during short rest), once
IPW: POB melee weapons and "shortbow, longbow, light crossbow, or heavy crossbow."
Can be a spell focus for warlock spells
Gains +1 to hit/damage if not already magic
If you're just a Hexblade, can you use a Greatsword as a hexblade weapon? No, because it has the Two-Handed property.
If you're just a non-Hexblade POB, can you use a Greatsword as a POB weapon, despite not being proficient with martial weapons? Yes, because it's a melee weapon, and you'll become proficient with it magically.
If you're a Hexblade POB, can you use a Greatsword as a hexblade weapon? Yes, if you perform the POB ritual, because "this benefit extends to every pact weapon you conjure with that feature, no matter the weapon’s type." The Greatsword is both a Hexblade weapon, and a POB weapon, with all the features of both.
If we're just talking about Greatswords... great. If we're talking about other 2H weapons like longbows, then we're in a weird situation where it's a Hex weapon but not a POB weapon, until you take IPW. If we're talking about slings, darts, hand crossbows, nets.... then we get into a situation where it can only be a Hex weapon and never a POB weapon, with or without IPW. Unless its a magic item, in which case all POB limitations are lifted, and any weapon at all will work????
thank you a ton for that, I was just using a greatsword as an example cause I think thats what will fit my character, and this is mostly for future reference, as my character is only level one right now, hes a melee fight thankfully, so I wont have to deal with ranged weapons

Short answer: yes.
Long answer: you don't even need to make your pact weapon a hex weapon to have the benefits of a hex weapon, it has it automatically. This means you can dual wield using charisma as well.
I.... never considered doing that, having one POB+Hex weapon and one Hex weapon. That would be more of a game changer... if Warlocks in general, and Hexblades in particular, weren't already such Bonus Action hogs.... but there's probably some niche builds! Perhaps more relevant for a character that switches between a POB+Hex Longbow and a Hex Greatsword? Or uses a POB+Hex Returning Net and a Hex Rapier? Hmmm.

Confusing.

I'm going to make this way harder than it needs to be.

Not sure you can do that since the non-pact hex weapon has to be 1 handed (it can be ranged though, so possibly sling or hand crossbow).
Whoops! Good catch :)
