Hi! First time poster, so sorry if I miss any of the forums social etiquette.
So I have a champion fighter who's currently equipping a rapier. They have a [17 / +3] strength and [19/ +4] dexterity and a +5 to proficiency. Everything I found on Remarkable Athlete said it adds half of the proficiency rounding up for damage rolls. However, the rapier only has 1d8+6 to it. My thought is since it's a finesse weapon, wouldn't it 4+3 since 5/2 = 2.5? So, like +7?
I'm missing out on a rule here somewhere and I can't figure out what.

That's just not a rule, so I'm not sure where you heard or read it. Here's the actual text of Remarkable Athlete, leaving out the part about jumping:
Starting at 7th level, you can add half your proficiency bonus (round up) to any Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution check you make that doesn't already use your proficiency bonus.
That's all it does. So it will apply to initiative, since that's a Dexterity check, but it just doesn't apply to rolls that aren't Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution checks. Here are some examples of what it does not apply to:
Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma checks.
Saves of any kind.
Attack rolls of any kind.
Damage rolls of any kind.
Rolling on a Wild Magic Sorcerer's Wild Magic Surge table.
If you're trying to figure out how they ended up with a +6 to the rapier, I assume they have the dueling fighting style, which adds a +2 to damage rolls. So then you have DEX plus the two, or 4+2 = 6. Note, however, that the +2 is only supposed to be added "When you are wielding a melee weapon in one hand and no other weapons," but the character sheet doesn't really know if you're dual wielding or not, so it just adds it across the board for one-handed melee weapons.
In terms of Remarkable Athlete, everything quindraco said is correct, it would not factor into the damage calculation.
OH, alright. I originally saw something I thought implied it was coming from Remarkable Athlete and just kind of accepted that despite the wording. This character just barely borders on randomly generated, so I should've just been a more careful reader ha. But that's good to know, thank you!
