Hi, I’m new to dnd and wanted to try an echo knight. I was wondering if this was a possible thing to do:
A guard stops you, you hold your action to manifest your echo behind the guard as a bonus action. As a reaction to the guard about to attack you you switch with your echo and attack the guard for AoO. Is this allowed? Trying to add a little flavor
You can't hold or delay in 5E, and you can't ready bonus actions. If you end up with lower initiative than the guard you won't get to ready a reaction in the first place. AoOs are triggered by movement, so you'd need the guard to move away from your new/previously your Echo's location as well. All in all, I don't see it happening by RAW. Now, you'd be trading a guaranteed attack for a possible AoO so it's not like it's some kind of cheesy rules exploit, so maybe your DM is ok with it regardless of what the RAW say.
