I am creating a support paladin and really like the Interception fighting style so far. However I am a little confused as to whether I would apply the interception damage reduction before or after any kind of resistance my allies could have to an attack.
If, for instance, they had fire resistance and were hit for 20 fire damage and I intercepted for 6 damage. Would they apply their resistance first to reduce the damage to 10 and then I would reduce it further to 4 ? Or would I first reduce their damage to 14 and then they would receive half of that for a total of 7 ?
From the PHB, combat, damage resistance and vulnerability:
Resistance and then vulnerability are applied after all other modifiers to damage. For example, a creature has resistance to bludgeoning damage and is hit by an attack that deals 25 bludgeoning damage. The creature is also within a magical aura that reduces all damage by 5. The 25 damage is first reduced by 5 and then halved, so the creature takes 10 damage.
