The spell "Raulothim's Psychic Lance" (From Fizban's Treasury of Dragons) lets you cast spells at people you do not see by naming them. They take damage if they are within 120 ft. But it also describes the effect as coming from your forehead, implying that some things can block it.
What will block the spell? Gas/Smoke/Fog?, Wall of Thorn/Water/Ice? Wood?, Stone?, Metal?, Wall of Force?
Clearly a Force Cage will stop it ('any spell'), as will a Cube of Force set to keep out magic. But Wall of Force uses the words 'physical passes', which I would argue this does not do.
The spell says "creature's name", so I would not allow "Minotaur". There is some dispute about using a nome de plume. I would allow you to use Mark Twain against Samuel Clemens, but I would not allow a nickname, such as "The Dude" against Jeffery Lebowski.
Coming from your forehead means it can benefit from cover. While no to hit is needed and it does not have a Dex save, total cover still works. Most other spells that are indirect require line of sight, so ignoring total cover does not help.
Spells such as Sacred Flame ignore cover, because they do not originate from the caster.
This is, to my knowledge, the only direct spell (so cover rules apply) that does not require line of sight. As such, the question arises, what exactly counts as total cover when the attack is psychic and line of sight is not needed.
