So I have a weird question about rules if I use my wizard spells for the arcane firearm would it deal extra damage. In my head it would make sense that it would work being that you are technically a artificer / a wizard. Unless I have that wrong. I'm not sure. Any help would be grateful thank you. I am relatively new to spellcasting for 3 years I've been playing Marshall classes.
This is wierd I am sure I answered this earlier today and saw another response after that.
Anyway here is what the arcane firearm says with the key points in bold.
You know how to turn a wand, staff, or rod into an arcane firearm, a conduit for your destructive spells. When you finish a long rest, you can use woodcarver’s tools to carve special sigils into a wand, staff, or rod and thereby turn it into your arcane firearm. The sigils disappear from the object if you later carve them on a different item. The sigils otherwise last indefinitely. You can use your arcane firearm as a spellcasting focus for your artificer spells. When you cast an artificer spell through the firearm, roll a d8, and you gain a bonus to one of the spell’s damage rolls equal to the number rolled.
A wand staff or rod can be used as an arcane focus for wizard spells and there is no indication that carving the sigils changes that. However the extra damage only occurs when you cast an artificer spell. To be an artificer spell you need to have prepared it as part of your portfolio of artificer spells if you prepared it from your spellbook it is a wizard spell even if it is on the artifer spell list.
