I'm DMing a TMW-happy 4th-level Wizard this weekend, and one of the random encounters in the module I'm using involves a mounted group of bandits. So the question I have is:
What happens when a mounted rider is subjected to the Mind-Whip's effect? Would they be limited to ranged attacks if they weren't already in melee or could they use the mount's movement to close to melee while still preserving their action?
For that matter, what happens to the mount's status when the rider is under the effect? For the purposes of this scenario, the CR2 leader is on a trained warhorse, while the rank&file CR1/8 bandits are on regular riding horses. Would they become temporarily uncontrolled, ie I need to at least temporarily insert them into the initiative order, or would they simply sit there waiting for a command that may not come?

Mounted creatures do not use their own movement, so Tasha's mind whip has reduced effect against them.
As a general rule it is better to attack the mount than the rider. Easier to hit, harder to save, easier to kill or knock unconscious.
Hence the immense utility of the feat "Mounted Combat"
