Let's say we have a 11/7 multiclass character. If they level up one level in each class they can pick 2 Epic Boons, one per level, and rise their main ability first to 21 and then to 22.
But.. what if they reeeeally want a specific general feat, like, let's say, Shield Master (for that nice interpose shield property it grants) and they could not pick it earlier. Would the character be able to pick it in lieu of the Epic Boon and still rise their core ability above the level 20 cap?
Isn't that a bit weird though? The character is essentially picking a nerfed option, why wouldn't it be possible to go for it and still get the secondary benefit of an Epic Boon?
They are clearly not making themselves more powerful, so it is not that they are unbalancing or exploiting the game rules.
@Paolo The thread 2024 Epic Boon Question was also about Epic Boons & the cap on ability scores. If it's useful for your games, alternatives like magic items or some class features were mentioned there.

No. The limit is defined by the feat or other feature that raises the Attribute. If you take a normal feat, your limit is going to be 20.
How to add Tooltips.
My houserulings.
I understand.

That's a discussion to have with your DM and would be considered a homebrew rule. RAW, Smite is correct. There is no ambiguity whatsoever.

Fantastic. Thank you so much :D
FWIW, you could probably make that argument with your DM and they may allow it. I probably would, if I were DMing and a player asked.
