If someone with Necrotic Resistance used Life Transference would they take half the damage from this spells effect? it does state it deals necrotic damage to the caster. and yes i know that would also make it heal less.
No. The spell states clearly that the necrotic damage cannot be reduced in any way. I would read that as including resistance, as you are intentionally doing damage to yourself in order to heal someone else. it implies that you are intentionally dropping your resistance for the spell.

I just discovered recently that you can possibly reduced the damage from Life Transference spell technically by having temporary hitpoints. It gets better when you have a high level character like Twilight Cleric or Abjuration Wizard. You can just tank the damage, reduced the damage and still heal your ally greatly. The spell didn't indicate that you will take direct damage to your current hitpoints so I think the spell is really good to consider if you have temporary hitpoint.
Though the problem is it might not be RAI but you can still do it RAW.
That is what I'm saying all right, the direct damage you take for casting life transference is being reduce by having temporary hitpoints, so it's just the same thing

Temp hp does not reduce the damage, it adds to how much you have have.
Temp hitpoints do allow you to cast Life Transference without taking any real hp damage. That is both RAW and RAI.
Similarly, healing yourself directly after using life transference is also RAI and RAW.
As long as you take the damage, the spell works.
