With the Spelljammer Errata adding the following paragraph
Backgrounds (p. 7). The following text was added to the end of the paragraph: “These backgrounds each give a feat. If a character takes a background from elsewhere and doesn’t get a feat from that background, the character gains one of the following feats of the player’s choice: Magic Initiate, Skilled, or Tough.”
Are we assuming that the PHB is going to be updated to include this as well? OR is this addition only going to apply to Spelljammer setting games?

Current Characters Alba - Owlin Phantom Rogue Corwynt - Tiefling Hexblade Swords Bard Vita - Halfling Life Cleric
The only backgrounds that I'm aware currently give a feat are the Strixhaven Student backgrounds, which gives the corresponding Strixhaven Initiate feat.
If this isn't a setting specific rule, then it is going to end up stacking with Variant Human and Custom Lineages, which would be interesting.
My understanding is that it's only in the Spelljammer setting, as there hasn't been any mention of it expanding to the mainline rules. If they were planning on doing that, why not just put the errata out in all of the books containing backgrounds all at the same time?
I saw others likening the feats attached to backgrounds as similar to the Dark Gifts from Van Richten's or the Supernatural Gifts from Theros, where they are setting-specific.
