Posting here because I thought I should try to get a rules clarification before signposting it as a potential bug in the builder.
In a character I'm building I do not have the Knight of Solamnia or Mage of High Sorcery backgrounds. The character is a Kender Ranger with no other classes and the Marine background. They have the Drakewarden Ranger Subclass and for their 1st-level bonus feat, I chose Tough. The only other feat I've given them is Mounted Combatant as their 16th-level Ranger ASI choice.
As far as I'm aware, none of this qualifies them for taking either the Squire of Solamnia or Initiate of High Sorcery feats. I wish this were not the case. In fact, the reason I discovered this potential error was because I tried to select the Squire of Solamnia feat as the 4th-level Ranger ASI and the builder wouldn't allow it. Because of that, I checked the wording of the feat prerequisite, which is as follows:
Dragonlance Campaign, Fighter or Paladin Class or Knight of Solamnia Background
This is almost identical to the wording of the Initiate of High Sorcery feat in terms of conditional phrasing:
Dragonlance Campaign, Sorcerer or Wizard Class or Mage of High Sorcery Background
As I understand it, this means that unless taking one of the two Backgrounds at 1st-level (I'm unclear on if you can change a Background mid-campaign to enable this so I'll just ignore that possibility for now) that grant these feats, then a character must have one of the listed classes in order to qualify, assuming the precondition of being in a Dragonlance Campaign is already satisfied.
Here's the problem: the builder allows me to take the Initiate of High Sorcery feat as my 4th-level option. It also allows it within the ad-hoc Feat list. It specifically does not include the Squire of Solamnia feat in this list by placing it within the list of Feats for which the character does not qualify.
My guess is that the either the Ranger class or Drakewarden subclass are somehow mistakingly being tagged by the builder as qualifying me for the Initiate of High Sorcery feat due to spellcasting ability or the granting of Thaumaturgy by the Drakewarden subclass. I currently have no spare character slots to test either theory, though, without wrecking/deleting any of my characters.
So, am I correct that the character shouldn't have access to the Initiate of High Sorcery feat or am I missing or misunderstanding a rule somewhere, somehow?
