So for a player to make a creature restrained with the grappler feat, they first must make a grapple check, and then make an additional one to get them restrained. Does that mean that the creature needs to perform to contested actions to get out of the restrain. If they only perform one, are they back to a basic grapple.

That's a pretty good Q i didn't think about. Translating it to the equivalent of Wrestling... would it go from doing a basic standing escape, to doing an escape from bottom, while in a ball and chain? basically, would the restrained portion of pinned in grapple give a "cover" =2 to keeping the grapple, or disadvantage or anything? or is it just flavor and nothing else.
So basically they can escape your Grappler Feat restrain by making an Athletics or Acrobatics check vs your Athletics. Or they get moved out of your reach, like their example of Thunderwave. Or you go unconscious. Not sure if I missed something

The feat tells you how the restrained condition ends: when the grapple ends. The feat doesn't change anything about the process of escaping a grapple.

Blank
But doesn't the fact that they are now Restrained not just Grappled change how they escape cause of the fact Grappler allow one to Pin the foe?
No, the grapple ends the same way as it always does, nothing in the feat says that changes.

It is not just unconscious condition that ends Grappled, it is becoming Incapacitated.
Thanks for the correction :)
