Given that Divine Smite must be used with a MELEE weapon attack, is it excluded by myself having cast a spell previously?
Example:
I cast Magic Missile as an attack, then with the Paladin's Extra Attack I then take up my Greatsword and make a melee weapon attack using Divine Smite? The INITIAL attack is not specifically a melee weapon attack. 🤷♂️
You can't use Extra Attack after casting a spell with your action. Extra Attack only works if you take the Attack action on your turn, whereas casting something like magic missile takes the [Tooltip Not Found] action.

Look at what you've done. You spoiled it. You have nobody to blame but yourself. Go sit and think about your actions.
Don't be mean. Rudeness is a vicious cycle, and it has to stop somewhere. Exceptions for things that are funny. Go to the current Competition of the Finest 'Brews! It's a cool place where cool people make cool things.

Also if you had a couple of levels in fighter so you can action surge you can use one action to cast a spell and your action surge action to make two melee attacks, either or both of which you can add a smite.
Note that this is one of the things they've talked about changing in the 1D&D UA. They scaled Paladins back to a single smite and they cannot cast a spell on the same turn. Personally I think that's fair because it just dials back their burst numbers, not overall damage.

Quar1on is correct. Now if you have a bonus action spell, you can cast that and also use the Attack action to smite.

Thanx! 😀

There we go! That is along the lines of what I am trying to accomplish! 😀👍
