My friend keeps recommending that I use this website / download the app, but I also want to figure out my moves on my own. Thoughts https://omegle****/?
This is probably better in tips and tricks or general discussion but....
The site can be used for a number of different things most do not involve figuring out you moves for example
1. You can create your character sheets online, I find these electronic copies where you can for example see a list of all your bonus actions or click on a spell and see exactly how it works far neater and easier than several pages on paper and still needing to refer to the book occasionally.
2. If a group of you are playing one person can buy all the books and pay an annual fee to enable the rest of you to access it. While you can share physical books with electronic copies it is easier and it works even if you are in different locations (whether you are 0lanning how to level up your character between sessions or you are laying remotely
3. If you want access to say a particular subclass you can buy that here for $1.99 rather than having to buy the whole book.
4. If you and your dm are not sure how a feature works you can ask on the forums
There are also disadvantages for example if you buy all the books electronically there is no guarantee that your access will continue forever, some players are concerned when the next edition comes out the "legacy" stuff will be removed from the site.
A lot of the tips and tricks part of the forum and the sections on individual classes is about how to play particular characters and optimise builds but you do not need to look at that
When it comes to Legacy content the approach seems to be that if you had it before it was removed you still have it, but you can't buy it moving forward if you didn't. (For example if you had the Volo's Guide version of playable races before Monsters of the Multiverse released you'll have both versions, but you can no longer buy Volo's Guide new.)
