So 5e they copied and pasted the old magic items, deleted the "suggested price" and had an intern assign rarities to them. Seriously. That's what they did. With all the playtest there has been no "playtesting" any of the magic items. Are they going to ignore it again?
I feel like playtesting magic items could be difficult seeing as your DM has to give you magic items first in order for players to playtest them, and most likely having to take them away again if they don't approve off the magic item afterwards. Besides, I feel like the core class concepts (including spells, feats and weapon mastery's) are higher of a priority for them and also harder to balance for game tables then magic items. But perhaps the last playtest will contain some! Who knows :)
They’ve explicitly been concentrating on the PHB so far, with DMG material only just appearing for the first time in the previous UA (UA8: Bastions). Thus, it would be premature to claim that they are ignoring magic items.
