Question regarding plasmoids using spells while in blob form. Would it be do-able? As most spells require somatic components, which require use of "hands". I've looked around and can't find a definitive answer, but some consensus I'm seeing is "no". Some examples i've found are using disguise self while in blob form to disguise self as a chest, or another is a wizard school of scribes as a blob. So what other peoples input, while i will be discussing with DM any extra input would be welcome.
RAW if a spell has a Somatic component, then the caster must use a hand to form gestures in order to cast the spell. And the idea that they can make themselves look like a chest in the first place is really pushing the limits of the spell description, and I'd probably veto it. There's other Illusion spells for creating the image of an object around yourself.
I’d agree they need some kind of hand. The closest thing I could see while remaining mostly blob would be the bonus action pseudopod you can make: “you can use this pseudopod to manipulate an object, open or close a door or container, or pick up or set down a Tiny object.” Whether or not it’s going to allow you to perform a somatic gesture for a spell is going to be a DM call. If your DM oks it, you could then cast a 1 action spell. Assuming you have the other components. Which may or may not be tricky depending on the spell. And, of course, the pseudopod would be there just sticking out.

I'm imagining a blob with two little pseudopods casting, like, burning hands and it's hilarious.
