Hey, hope you are all great. I wanted to make a eldritch knight dwarf but when chasing the subclass I had a few doubts. D&D BEYOND dwarf class doesn't go into detail of the characteristics like age or speed of the other dwarf subraces. Which brings me to my question, how do Dwarfs outside of the main race work?
Outside of the +2 Strength or the +1wisdom what traits to the Hill and Mountain Dwarf get from the classic Dwarf? do all 3 of them get the +2 to constitution? do all 3 have tool proficiency? where is the common traits and the unique traits each Dwarf subclass gets?
You might want to check with your DM. Since Tasha’s released, there’s a lot, lot more flexibility about things like where ability score boosts go, what kinds of proficiencies they have and more. See if you’re using those options or not. That may answer your questions.
I think you're confused about how subraces work. There is no "classic dwarf." Each and every dwarf (except for any dwarves that classified as separate races) gets all of the traits that are listed for dwarfs, and then add on the unique traits for their subrace. You can't just be a "classic dwarf," because every dwarf has to choose a subrace.

Look at what you've done. You spoiled it. You have nobody to blame but yourself. Go sit and think about your actions.

Dwarves work quite industriously because they know the value of a good day's work, thank you very much.
Since seeing the title of this thread I can't get "Hi ho hi ho it's off to work we go" out of my head.
