Can someone please help us clear up how many attacks this character would get in round 1 during the Dread Ambush and then subsequent rounds. You can also throw in there some action surge. HUGE debate over this. Very confusing to us....I am sure this is wrong...can somebody set us straight?
Ranger 5/Fighter 6......Using a long bow by the way.....
First Round of Combat with Action Surge: 7 Total Attacks?
1 Attack standard, 1 Extra Attack from Dread Ambush, 1 Extra Attack from Ranger level 5, and 1 Extra Attack from Fighter level 5 = 4 Attacks
Action Surge
1 Attack standard, 1 Extra Attack from Ranger level 5, and 1 Extra Attack from Fighter level 5 = 3 Attacks
1 Attack standard, 1 Attack from Extra Attack, 1 Attack from Dread Ambush = 3 Attacks
Action Surge
1 Attack standard, 1 Attack from Extra Attack, 1 Attack from Dread Ambush = 3 Attacks
Note this is just using the characters standard Action and the Action granted by Action Surge. They still have their Bonus Action if they have a feature that uses it and of course their movement.
*Edit* Corrected the above as Dread Ambush isn't limited to once per turn so it applies any time you take the Attack action on the first turn of combat. Thanks jl8e!
The extra attack abilities you get from Fighter and Ranger both let you take two attacks when you take the attack action. They don't give you +1 attack, so they don't stack.
So, you'd get 3 in the first round because of dread ambusher, and two in future rounds.
However, dread ambusher says:
If you take the Attack action on that turn, you can make one additional weapon attack as part of that action. If that attack hits, the target takes an extra 1d8 damage of the weapon’s damage type.
Action surge lets you take the attack action a second time, so you get to use Dread Ambusher twice.
So you get 3 or 6 attacks in the first round, and 2 or 4 in subsequent rounds.

This is not correct, but it is close.
The only error I see is that Extra Attack from multiple classes does not stack: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/customization-options#ExtraAttack
So it would be 5 attacks total:
1 Attack standard, 1 Attack from Extra Attack, 1 Attack from Dread Ambush = 3 Attacks
Action Surge
1 Attack standard, 1 Attack from Extra Attack, 1 Attack from Dread Ambush = 3 Attacks
