Please advice a newbie. I have searched the internet about combat mechanics for HoH and seems like its really confusing
All creatures inside are blind, doest it mean they cant attack anything what is outside the void(if they rely on sight)?
Also how me and my party attack creatures that are inside?
Do we also dont see anything from outside to inside?
As i understood its either of 2 variants:
1st- we also blinded to hit inside so advantage on blinded enemy , and our disadvantage of 0 sight just cancel each other. So our attack rolls on trapped inside enemies are as usual
2nd- we see through and attack with advantage if we have devil sight or dark vision( i know hada rstates its not darkess but blackness =)
My take on it as an active DM where this has come up multiple times in my current campaign
1: they cancel each other out
2: Devils sight and dark vision do not allow you to see within the blackness
It is not magical Darkness, it is Heavily Obscured/Total Cover
to target a creature or object with a spell that is not an area of effect you have to have a line of sight to the point of impact - your line of sight terminates at the outside of the sphere
an area of effect spell can target a side of the Hunger of Hadar that you can see, for the sake of spell casting the opposite side is behind Total Cover but not protected by total cover (fireball point of impact is the side you can see, the flames then expand out into the Hunger area unimpeded)
you can launch something in a line of attack from the outside through it. e.g if a player wants to say “I remember where the goblin was standing and I’m going to shoot an arrow through that location” then I would have them make an ability check (intelligence) to remember that location, if they pass they can then make the attack with disadvantage.
if you are within the Hunger area attacking another creature or object that is in melee with you, it is a straight roll, no advantage or disadvantage
If you are within the area you cannot target anything for a ranged attack
I attack creatures outside the darkness with advantage
But they attack me with disadvantage+ they need to roll inteligencr check to attack me with disadvantage?
But what about if i attack from darkness then move 5 feet inside the darkness?
that’s how I rule it in my games for ranged attacks into a completely obscured area, check with your DM how they want to roll before you spring it on them during a session.
if you move after attacking and are completely hidden then your opponent can attack the spot you previously were if they want. they might hear you move but they don’t know where your moved to.
RAW is that if they can't see you when you attack, you get advantage. If you can't see them, you get disadvantage. These both cancel.
The funky things happen when someone takes the Hide Action, because if they succeed, then other people don't know where they are and have to guess.
Honestly, this one of the areas where 5e gets janky and doesn't work so well.

While it doesn't explicitly say so, Hunger of Hadar 's sphere of blackness is an area that no light can illuminate, and in which creatures are blinded when trying to see something in it, meaning its heavily obscured magical darkness, in which most creature won't see through and be able to cast spells against targets they can see. Attack rolls have both advantage and disadvantage and are considered to have neither of them, and rolling only 1d20.
While not official ruling, when asked the Dev on X even Devil's Sight doesn't see through the spell:
@JeremyECrawford Devil's Sight is meant to pierce the dark created by a spell like darkness, not the void of hunger of Hadar.

Good day people,

There is nuance to it, but that’s enough for me
Thanks so as i understand using this scenario
If i am warlock standing in spell darkness
I attack creatures outside the darkness with advantage
But they attack me with disadvantage+ they need to roll inteligencr check to attack me with disadvantage?
