I recently realised that players add Prof. Bonus to attack (and some other) rolls.
If a player is using a LMOP pre made character (at say level 1...I know the prof bonus goes up higher levels), do you add it to the roll to attack...or with it being pre made, is the prof bonus already built in to where it says (for the Dwarf for example) Shortsword, attack bonus +5?
The pre made character sheets for the LMOP already have that bonus factored in for the listed weapon attack options. The Dwarf character doesn't match up to your example, but in the case of the Halfling character, a shortsword is listed with a +5 To Hit and then it also says that it does Damage of 1d6 + 3 piercing. These are already fully calculated and ready to go for your game.
The (+5) To Hit comes from the fact that the character has a high Dexterity score with a Dexterity modifier of +3 and the shortsword is a "finesse" weapon which allows the use of the Dexterity modifier in the calculation. They also added the Proficiency Bonus for a total To Hit of +5. You do not add the Proficiency Bonus to the damage though, which is why the damage is 1d6 +3 and not 1d6 +5. The Dexterity modifier was added in for you already.
