im planning on playing an artificer who will be an Ex clan crafter and will make many magic items using the infusion Replicate Magic Item. The one problem ive run into is how to actually make them. it says look in the dungeon masters guide to see what is needed to create the item but i cant find anything. Dose anyone know where i can find the list or what page it is in the book?
In order to Replicate Magic Item you choose a magic item that you can make with it, picking from the Replicable Items tables. A table's title tells you the level you must be in the class to choose an item from the table. Alternatively, you can choose the magic item from among the common magic items in the game, not including potions or scrolls.
If you are using the Replicate Magic Item as an infusion, you don't need to craft it using the crafting rules. You are just adding magic to a similar mundane object that I'd generally consider to be easy to acquire. So for example a Bag Of Holding infusion can be added to any bag (I'd say even your backpack if you wanted) that you buy or make. Similarly, if you were picking a common magic item not on the Artificer specific list, say Boots of False Tracks, you could apply the infusion to any boots, or Cloak of Billowing to any cloak.
Just remember that you have to choose the specific item you are replicating when you level up/take that infusion and you can't change infusions known again until the next level up. Like the rest of your infusions, you can swap them around after a long rest. So if you know 4 infusions and you can have 2 active, you might have the item swap in and out between your 4 known infusions as your mornings dictate and have your boots sometimes be ordinary. But you can't take Replicate Magic Item and choose from the table each morning.
The crafting rules are also worth knowing, and if you have downtime, using your tools to make them is fun, but that's different from your infusions.
