Has anyone had an unknown increase in your initiative bonus? I turned off the use "Expanded rules" on the home page for editing my character and unequipped my sentinel shield. No change. I had a +3, also my Dex mod, and now have +5. I am a champion fighter, and I think I heard another champ in our group say his was also +5. By the way, the Shield adds +5 to my passive perception. Not sure if that's a glitch or on purpose.
The Sentinel Shield grants advantage on Initiative and Perception checks, so that boosts passive perception by +5 (which is how I have a ranger with a 25 passive perception). Don't know why it would give a flat bonus to Init unless the rules changed in the 2024 update. Or it might just be a glitch.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
Are you by any chance level 7? or above. Because from what I have read, the level 7 feature for champions, also adds to initiative
Remarkable Athlete
Starting at 7th level, you can add half your proficiency bonus (round up) to any Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution check you make that doesn’t already use your proficiency bonus.
In addition, when you make a running long jump, the distance you can cover increases by a number of feet equal to your Strength modifier.
I don't think Initiative counts as a Dex check? They might have put it on by accident I guess.

If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.

If it’s a 5.5 character with Alert feat then it’s adding proficiency bonus
I don't know about 5.5 but I don't have the Alert feat.

I’ve just checked the wording in the free rules on here, and it is a Dexterity check.
Thanks for the info. I never would have thought to call Initiative a Dex check.
We are all in danger!
It's always been a Dex check. Similarly, abilities that boost ability checks work on Initiative.
