RAW: "Heavy Weapon Mastery. When you hit a creature with a weapon that has the Heavy property as part of the Attack action on your turn, you can cause the weapon to deal extra damage to the target. The extra damage equals your Proficiency Bonus.
Hew. Immediately after you score a Critical Hit with a Melee weapon or reduce a creature to 0 Hit Points with one, you can make one attack with the same weapon as a Bonus Action."
Note that Longbows and Heavy Crossbows have the Heavy property. Note also that while Hew specifically calls out Melee weapons, the base part of the Feat does not.
I know that there was shade thrown at Sharpshooter for dropping the -5/+10 thing but is this how we get some bonus ranged damage back? Or is this not WAI and going to be patched out?
Seems pretty intentional to me. It's hard to believe that they wanted it to only be for melee weapons and slipped up with the writing, considering they specified melee weapons in the feature right afterwards.

Look at what you've done. You spoiled it. You have nobody to blame but yourself. Go sit and think about your actions.
How I'm posting based on text formatting: Mod Hat Off - Mod Hat Also Off (I'm not a mod)
A lot of people are seeing it as intentional and it actually makes Heavy Crossbow out damage hand Crossbows at higher levels with Crossbow Expert for classes with Extra Attack, which is neat.

Thanks in advance.
