In chapter 6 (Equipment) Rope and Chain do not have a length specified in the Adventuring Gear table or in their descriptions. In the description for String, it says it has a length of 10 feet. How long is Chain and Rope? I know in the previous PH Rope was 50 ft and Chain was 10 ft but the new PH doesn't say.
In the latest Player's Handbook, if the lengths for Rope and Chain aren't specified in the Adventuring Gear table, you can generally refer to the previous edition's standards. Typically, Rope is 50 feet long, and Chain is 10 feet long. If there's no explicit mention, it's often safe to use those lengths unless your Dungeon Master specifies otherwise.
We might infer that the Rope is still intended to be 50 ft long, as the throwing range for the Grappling Hook is 50 ft and, if “you tied a Rope to the hook, you can then climb it”.
