I was just wondering how this works in the new 5E 2024 ruleset. A paladin cast drivne favor and then scores a critical hit. Normally it is written when you score a hit you can roll a 2nd die. Would this mean that he in this case with a shorsword would do 2d6 and another 2d4 for the divine favor or would it only be the weapon damage, like 2d6 and then 1d4 for Divine favor.
Just wanted to check and see what others are doing :)
In both 2014 and 2024 rules, on a critical hit you double all the damage dice, including add-on damage dice from effects like Divine Favor.
In your example, the attack would deal 2d6 piercing damage and 2d4 radiant damage. The relevant ability modifier would be added to the piercing damage (though the ability modifier doesn't get doubled).
It should be the same with the extra damage from other Smite spells, or from other spells like Hunter's Mark, Hex, or True Strike (in this case at higher levels).
Features that say that attacks deal more damage, such as sneak attack, divine favor, divine smite, hunter's mark, hex, and true strike are doubled on a critical. Features that are not part of the attack, even if they are triggered by an attack, like psionic strike (psi warrior), do not double on a crit of the original attack.
