In "Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage", there is a Beast called Haungharassk.
It is CR 0, and has a Magical Ability, that grants 6 temp hitpoints and a Remove Curse to anyone that uses an action to touch it.
What happens if you Polymorph into it? I don't think 6 temp hitpoints are abusive, but the Remove Curse is a 3rd level spell, and unlimited Remove Curses obtained from a 4th level spell (and possibly a DC 20 Nature check to know about the Haungharassk) seems a bit much.
(Note, I would love hearing both RAW and suggested House Rulings on this.)
The Haungharassk is a beast you can Polymorph into, but you would be just a Haungharassk as defined in the monster listing. The one in the dungeon has been augmented by magic to have those extra features. Polymorph just allows for the generic versions, not the special ones found in some modules/adventures.
Yeah. If you polymorph or wild shape into a haungharassk, you would just be a huge slow snail with no actions, little movement, and less AC. Decent amout of HP and STR though.
One can wild shape into it too. So if you’re a Druid and really need to either grapple someone or to pass that athletics check, and you used Strength as a dump stat, then transform and you already have a 20 in strength.

Is there any evidence that the Haungharassk has been augmented by magic, instead of being innately magical?
If the Haungharassk is a Giant Snail that is innately magical, then it is a legit form for Wild Shape.
After all, the text for Wild Shape says it allows you to assume the shape of a beast you have seen before. Said beast can be the specific Haungharassk in DotMM with all its magical powers.
The text in the module supports that it has been augmented. In addition to the magic augmentation (or as part of it) that particular one also has gold infused throughout it's shell. (20,000gp worth) Wild Shape can't include that just as it can't let you change into a warhorse with barding even though it's been seen before.
So from what I understand the Haungharassk is also considered a challenge rating zero beast, does that mean with find familiar you could spawn it and just have a really really big walking meat bag?

If you're using the 2024 version of Find Familiar, then yes, I suppose you could do that. It has a lot of HP for a CR 0 creature but it's very slow and can't really do much of anything.
the base haungharassk is an excellent option to transform enemies into in the middle of a fight as a shutdown. It has no option for fighting back, has an incredibly slow speed so it can't run away, and it's allies can't just stomp on it to transform it back, they'd have to devote a pretty signifigant amount of actions or resources to get through its chunky hitpoint pool.
It doesn't specify that you can't repeatedly gain temp hp, you could spend 10 minutes touching it repeatedly and gain 3600 temp hp for 23hrs & 50mins.
Edit: My bad temporary hp doesn't stack
Also, the haungharassk is a CR 0 Beast, so it can be conjured by the Find Familiar spell. Therefore, if it dies, you can bring it back and continue getting 3600 (Edit: 6) temp hp every morning
Temporary Hit Points can’t be added together. If you have Temporary Hit Points and receive more of them, you decide whether to keep the ones you have or to gain the new ones. For example, if a spell grants you 12 Temporary Hit Points when you already have 10, you can have 12 or 10, not 22.

Haven’t used this account in forever. Still a big fan of crawling claws.
