According to some spell descriptions, for example, Shillelagh, I can cast it as a Bonus Action.
Can I follow that with a weapon attack, like proceed to use by club/quarterstaff, or does that use up my main action as well, removing my ability to make a weapon attack?

Yes, you can cast Shillelagh as a Bonus Action, and then take the Attack action to attack. That's fine. (EDIT: or you could take another Action)
Just to clarify one thing: it doesn't say you can cast it as a bonus action. It says you must cast it as a bonus action. Spells with a casting time of 1 bonus action can't be cast using your main action unless there's some other special feature saying you can.

More than being able to do this, this is almost certainly the intended way to use Shillelagh, it wouldn't be very functional else. You could also cast a spell or cantrip with a casting time of 1 action following Shillelagh, for example you can cast Shillelagh as a bonus action, move 15 foot towards your target and cast True Strike to perform a weapon attack. If you're using other materials than just PHB there is also Booming Blade and Green-Flame Blade which are good options too.
This gets kinda crazy on an Eldritch Knight who if they have Shillelagh (such as from the magic initiative origin feat), they could cast Shillelagh on their club/quarterstaff, attack and use warmagic to switch 1 attack with a cantrip with a casting time of 1 action (i.e. true strike), action surge and again take the attack action to get warmagic to switch another attack with a cantrip with a casting time of 1 action(i.e. true strike). And there you go, three cantrips cast in 1 turn as well as some other normal weapon attacks on top.

pronouns: he/she/they
Agreed.
There is a SAC entry about it:
Sry, when I was typing this, I did mean it as casting it as a Bonus Action only. Not implying on casting it as a Reaction or Action.
Yeah, I undertood that.
You were right: after casting Shillelagh, you can follow that with a weapon attack.
