I have weapon mastery with a dagger only. I have a scimitar (both have Nick)
At Level 1:
I attack with Scimitar and my bonus action allows me to attack with a dagger. Correct?
If I hit with the scimitar, because I have master of Nick through the dagger, I can still use the Nick property and get another attack. Correct?
Follow up, if I have mastery with both Scimitar & dagger, I hit with both, do I only get a single additional attack?
At Level 5:
I get 2 attacks, I can get 2xScmitar attacks and for my bonus action have a dagger attack. Correct?
If all three attacks with Nick property hit, how many additional attacks do I get?
Edit: Please don't attach links, many of the answers in those long threads can be confusing and even contradictory. That is why I have a separate thread.
Incorrect. You only get a total of one additional attack roll from the Light property regardless of whether or not you have Mastery with a Nick weapon. The Nick property says "When you make the extra attack of the Light property, you can make it as part of the Attack action instead of as a Bonus Action. You can make this extra attack only once per turn." And the Light property reads "When you take the Attack action on your turn and attack with a Light weapon, you can make one extra attack as a Bonus Action later on the same turn." All that Nick does is change the timing of when you make this one attack so it's a part of the Attack action, leaving your Bonus Action free to be used for another feature. Nick isn't a feature you use in a vacuum, it's something you use because you've got a Bonus Action option you'd like to consistently use.
Not sure how you only have 1 weapon mastery at level 1, but it's a moot point. If you're looking for a 2 weapon build and the most number of attacks...
At level 1
- you have 2 weapons
- 1 is a nick weapon with which you have proficiency.
You can make 2 attacks, 1 normal attack and 1 light property attack as a bonus action.
- Nick allows you to move the light property attack from a bonus action to the main action but you are still limited to just 1 attack.
At level 4
- you have the same two weapons, 1 is a nick weapon
- you take the Feat - Dual Wielder
you can make 3 attacks, 1 normal attack, 1 light property attack via nick and as a bonus action, 1 Dual Wielder attack (has to be melee weapon)
At level 5
- you have the same weapons and feat as at level 4 but you get extra attack
you can make 4 attacks, 2 normal attacks, 1 light property attack via nick and as a bonus action, 1 Dual Wielder attack (has to be melee weapon)
As a Fighter or Warlock it is possible to get more attacks (but Warlock doesn't get weapon mastery as a class feature) but at that point 2 weapon builds tend not to perform as well as heavy weapon builds.
If I hit with the scimitar, because I have master of Nick through the dagger, I can still use the Nick property and get another attack. Correct?
You don't need to hit in order to use Nick. But Nick doesn't provide a new extra attack; it shifts the extra attack of the Light property from a Bonus Action to an extra attack as part of your Attack action, and adds that restriction to it, so if you use Nick, you can only make the Light property's extra attack once per turn.
Follow up, if I have mastery with both Scimitar & dagger, I hit with both, do I only get a single additional attack?
Only two attacks at level 1. Light gives you one extra attack as a Bonus Action. So you can make it that way, or to shift it into your Attack action using Nick.
At Level 5:
I get 2 attacks, I can get 2xScmitar attacks and for my bonus action have a dagger attack. Correct?
That’s why I made mine a fighter 1/Warlock X. The warlock’s capstone ability is pretty bad anyway when it’s just an upgraded version of something you alreqdy get at level 2.
Not to derail the conversation, but what about if you don’t want to take the dual wielder feat but still want to use two-weapon fighting, particularly as a fighter 1/ Warlock X? I’m already taking Warcaster and maximizing both my charisma and constitution in order to make the most of Searing Vengeance and Boon of Recovery (both recover half of my total hit points upon a death saving throw.)

Yes, thanks to the Light property.
