I encountered a potential error with the 2024 version of the Aura of Vitality spell as it's implemented on D&D Beyond.
My player is using a 2024 Spellfire Sorcerer, which automatically has the spell prepared. The character sheet displays the spell with the Abjuration school symbol (matching the 2024 rules) and without a "Legacy" marker, confirming it's the new version.
However, there's a critical discrepancy between the written 2024 rule and the D&D Beyond tooltip:
The 2024 rules text states: "When you create the aura and at the start of each of your turns while it persists, you can restore 2d6 Hit Points to one creature in it." This text removes the Bonus Action cost present in the 2014 version.
The D&D Beyond tooltip for the spell on the character sheet still says: "You can use a bonus action to target one creature in the aura (including you)"
This implies that the digital sheet is using the 2024 spell's school and availability, but is incorrectly applying the 2014 version's action economy.
Could this be a bug or a data-entry holdover from the previous edition? The removal of the Bonus Action cost is a significant buff to the spell, and the current implementation on the site seems to contradict the published 2024 rules.
Has anyone else noticed this or found an official clarification?
Who would have guessed I could cut and paste this answer on two new posts at the same time.
D&D Beyond lists is an online tool. It is not a rules arbitrator. Everything you read in D&D Beyond list is the output of a database. So there are slight discrepancies as you have to to be able to convert a database with simple input/output into your online list. To convert that data, in a format that meets all of the similar type options across all classes you get that discrepancy.
I believe I read, the book trumps the online D&D Beyond lists if a discrepancy occurs.
