I started the German Heroes of the Borderlands an selected a Hermit as Background.
According to the German Hermit Card the Healer feat states that as battle medic the character can heal someone for 1D8+2 hit points once per long rest (no healers kit charge necessary). This differs from the PHB 2024 feat that requires a healers kit charge, is not time restricted and regenerates a hit die.
Is this difference intended, i.e. also present in the original English version?
I don't have the set, but from a review online, it looks like the Backgrounds are simplified and don't give feats but instead give features similar to an origin feat. The Hermit background gives Combat Healer and Healing Rerolls. Combat Healer states, "As a Utilize action, you can tend to a creature within 5 feet of yourself. That creature regains 1d8 + 2 Hit Points, and you can't use Combat Healer on it again until it finishes a Long Rest."
In English the Heroes of the Borderlands ability is called to "Combat Healer" while the Healer feat gives an ability called "Battle Medic" with different mechanics. Healing Rerolls is essentially the same apart from referencing Combat Healer vs Battle Medic.
I suspect the other backgrounds/feats are similarly simplified and need to be converted when transitioning from the box set to standard D&D.
Edit: Yes, Sage is similarly simplified with no choice of casting stat and a set selection of spells (which don't use a casting stat) as opposed to the Magic Initiate feat. The spells are taken from the Wizard spell list.
Regarding conversion: The borderland heroes are available as pregen in Beyond and they use the Basic/PHB feats. But while something like the simplified Sage or Acolyte is more or less a specific configuration, with PHB Hermit you get the PHB healer feat with battle medic of course (this is how I noticed the difference anyway).
Edit: Taking the short rest simplifcations (no hit dice) into account, combat healer is a necessary adaption as battle medic uses hit dice. So once you convert to the full rules and learn about HD the transition to battle medic should make sense.
