Out of curiosity, do any other DMs allow players to use their bonus actions and reactions for things not listed in the rules. For example, my player would ask me as a giant is dying, if he could grab his sword as its falling as a reaction.
If what they want to do can have mechanical implications (like, i.e., the character found themselves without weapons and there are still enemies closing in on them), sure, why not? but the player has to roll something in order to be able to do it (straight DEX roll, in the example)

I leave bonus actions and reactions strictly for the features that are supposed to use them. If a player wants to do something outside of their turn, they can take the Ready action. If they want to improvise an action, the rules already allow that too.

If the desire is purely scenic, sure, why not?
