I only have the PHB. I'm joining a PotA campaign at level 3 and have selected the Human variant from the PHB as my race, which is one +2 stat boost, a feat., and a skill. However, the GM of the game said I can use stuff from other books like XGTE, Volo's, SCAG, etc... I don't own those books nor can I find them in PDF form online thus far. I did find out there's a feat in one of them called Prodigy. It gives you one extra skill, one tool, and expertise in a current skill you are proficient in. So my question is this....
Do I get all of the stuff from Human variant and all of the stuff from Prodigy feat, because I read a thread where it said the Prodigy replaces only the stat boost to human. Would this give me the Prodigy feat at 1st level and my bonus feat (warcaster) at 1st level also, but I won't get the +2 boost to a stat???
I think whatever thread you were reading, your interpretation probably took it out of context. For reference, the canonical text of the feat is:
You gain one skill proficiency of your choice, one tool proficiency of your choice, and fluency in one language of your choice.
Choose one skill in which you have proficiency. You gain expertise with that skill, which means your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make with it. The skill you choose must be one that isn’t already benefiting from a feature, such as Expertise, that doubles your proficiency bonus.
There is nothing here about replacing any stats or any interaction with stats. I'm guessing that the thread may have been saying that by taking Prodigy, you were effectively replacing some stat boosts from the regular human for various proficiency bonuses as a variant human.
Ah ok. So basically I have to choose between the Prodigy feat or the Warcaster feat at 1st level if I opt to take the Human Variant which allows one feat?
Or is it bundled into one big juicy package and I get all of it? Seems OP if that's the case but I won't pass it up, LOL.
Yeah that makes more sense. I am thinking maybe I was reading a thread about homebrew games and the DM allowed the player to pass up on the stats boost in exchange for taking two feats at 1st level with human variant. I'm sure that was it. Thanks for the help man!

You only get 1 feat, so definitely not taking two.
