Is me and my friends are new to DnD and I got in a debate with the DM about whether or not my attack modifier (+5 on a 15 roll, =20) would count as a critical hit. As in, would I have had the ability to double my damage roll? I wa a just wondering, it wasn't a huge deal, and it dosent affect too much. But damn if I were correct haha.
And while some game features, like this one from the Fighter class, adds to that base rule it is always about the D20 roll, not about the checks total (other games do that).
Improved Critical
Beginning when you choose this archetype at 3rd level, your weapon attacks score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20.

Unless noted otherwise, only Rolling 20 is a Critical Hit.
