I'm running an adventure for my PCs, but I can't see a way for them to assign a type to the damage they are dealt. All I can see are options for a numerical field, and heal / damage. How do PCs apply vulnerabilities/resistances using the D&D Beyond tools?
Those, like many other features, aren't mechanically integrated. Character sheets track resistance in the "Defenses" area, but you will have to do the math yourself.
If you are instead asking how to track new vulnerabilities/resistances, you can click on the "Defenses" section and select the "Customize" option.

Simply put, you don't. If they are vulnerable to the damage, they take double, so you subtract double from their HP. If they resist the damage, they take half, so subtract half as much from their HP.
It isn't exactly a missing feature since it isn't an expected feature. Maybe in the future when we have a table top and actually target creatures with spells, then the damage can be applied automatically including resistance and vulnerability, but today with our simple value tracker.

Thanks Memnosyne, appreciate the clarity. I thought it was something missed when I looked through. I'll keep that in mind for my PCs.
