I know that in D&D a character can earn the breath weapon through a quest given buy ancient dragon and then gain the breath weapon that correlates to said dragon. But what I want to know is can you gain two breath weapons by making a dragonborn sorcerer with two separate draconic ancestor's, or do I just have high hopes.
P.s. I believe that a character can have and use four breath weapons simultaneously correct me if I'm wrong though
As far as I can see, the dragonborn race is the only way to get a breath weapon without homebrew, and only gives 1. Anything extra is up to the DM to allow.
A dragonborn character gets a single breath attack, of a single type, usable once per rest. Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer does not grant a breath attack, regardless of the colour/element chosen - it just enhances spells of that type and can grant resistance. The dragon color you choose for the class has no effect or interaction with the one chosen for the racial feature, and vice versa.
I don't know what you are referring to about quests from ancient dragons, as that's not written in any of the rulebooks I've read. Perhaps it is in an adventure that you have seen that I've not. At any rate, there is no limit to the number of breath attacks a character might have available to them from all sorts of sources (dragonborn race, Dragon's Breath spell, magic object, custom feat, whatever), but none of them will be able to be used simultaneously. They will each dictate when they can be used, normally "as an action", and how often before they expire or need to recharge with rest or similar.
