Hey everyone! Just joined here. just wondering if it is possible to throw a weapon like a hand axe or a spear during a high jump.
The exact scenario would be a eldritch knight with the jump spell and a strength of 18 so he could jump up to 21 feet in the air. My question is if you can use your action in mid air at the hight of the jump to throw a spear at the enemy before you begin to fall. Also, if you have an extra attack would you be able to hit the enemy with your primary weapon as you land on them? And I am aware of all different views on if you take falling damage or not I don't really care about that part right now. Lol
As in, could you jump up in order to increase your vertical range with a thrown weapon? I'd say yes, good use for magic jumping, plus it's cool. Can you attack with a different weapon when you land? Yes.
Fall damage? If your legs can jump up that high then they can land down safely just the same.
I would certainly allow the throwing of a melee weapon this way (rule of cool), but jumping to get rid of disadvantage for a range weapon/spell I'd be more weary of.

Not to mention provoking an attack of opportunity in the process.

You don't know what fear is until you've witnessed a drunk bird divebombing you while carrying a screaming Kobold throwing fire anywhere and everywhere.
I am all for letting characters try to jump up to take a swing at a creature that is above their reach. I would likely do the same for someone jumping to throw a ranged weapon just a tiny bit further. As a semi-aside, I told one of my players that when he gets his vertical jump up to 10', I would let him run and jump over a medium-sized creature without causing an opportunity attack, assuming he started his round out of melee range. Yes, I know some medium-sized monsters are damn near 10' tall, but I am treating the vertical like the horizontal for simplicity's sake.
The extra attack after the jump/landing would have to be a Bonus Action. I'm fairly certain that extra (Fighter) attacks are part of the Attack Action.

What if you were to land ON an enemy and stabbed them with your spear for example. Say you have 2 spears you throw one at 20 feet then stab and land on them with the other. Would they take damage from you falling 20 feet on to them and damage from your spear if they fail a dex save and if you break their AC?

True, but you can split your attacks with movement in-between, so long as you don't mind taking attacks of opportunity.

Nope. There is no game mechanic for additional damage by falling on a target. You just make a regular attack.
As an aside, you wouldn't even injure yourself from falling unless the height was greater than 30 feet, so I wouldn't even entertain the possibility of accepting homebrew allowing a creature to do that.

That's fair. Explains why I couldn't find anything on it in the hand book. I was just curious thanks.
Yes, you can use your attack action at any time during your movement. Which is why move-shoot-move works.
Would I be able to use all my attack actions, bonus action and even action surge in the air?
That will mostly depend on DM. The rules don't forbid it, but they don't expressly permit it either.
Getting pretty anime (unreal) at that point.
Yeah that's what I was thinking. Mostly just checking to see if it was possible to exploit it that bad. Kind of seems like an unintentional loophole. I don't think using an action to throw then a bonus action to call back your spear as you land to continue your assault would be that outlandish though.

I could also see the jump for a different angle to eliminate the "cover" effect of a low obstacle.
