I have read a couple forums on reddit about key differences with the water genasi and the tritons and which some would prefer over the other. I have seen a lot of triton paladin character concepts through multiple forums but did not see much for water genasi. Flavor wise they can both be great for their own reasons, but would water genasi be a poor race for paladins?
Just thinking of the use of holy water after reaching 3rd level (create water and depending upon DMblessing and creating more water to add to it) would be awesome alone, but would there be any other benefits besides the obvious wisdom +1 racial bonus?
That’s a hard choice. I’d have problems deciding between a Triton and a Water Genasi for a few different classes, including paladins. Both are incredible!
I do have an issue with the abilities that Tritons have though, which would tend to push me towards Water Gensai. Tritons have 3 innate spells that don’t fit with their description, back story, or history. All 3 of the spells are either useless underwater or don’t make sense underwater and only make sense above water. That doesn’t fit with their description that says they have problems when they’re not in the water because they think in 3 dimensions instead of 2 dimensions.
I haven’t put any thought into what spells I’d replace those 3 with, but I’d have to replace them with spells that are designed to work underwater before playing a Triton just for the feel.
