So my new team of level two adventurers managed to defeat a White Dragon Wyrmling. They then opted to drag the corpse back to town and in order to sell it. For a little background, they are working for dealer in rare antiques and magical artifacts. So when they asked to take the Wyrmlings body back with them (they had access to a sled and pack animals) it was hard to say no.
The problem is, I have no idea how to assign a value in gold pieces to Wyrmling's carcass. Dragon parts are presumably valuable enough to sell, but I cant find any references to help me figure out the value.
I'd probably go based on an appropriate treasure for the level: use https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dmg/treasure#RandomTreasure rules to generate a CR2 hoard, convert the value to GP, and say that's how much the wyrmling is worth. Probably use the 'hoard' rather than individual treasure rules.
Instead of gold, maybe they’re offered a trade, the craftsman will make them an item, and keep whatever parts he doesn’t use for his business. Then he offers them something like a suit of scale mail with cold resistance. Or a cloak with cold resistance. Or a ring of warmth. A wand of winter is probably OP for level 2, but really any cold themed magic item could do the trick. It will be much more interesting than a pile of gold. Then as they level up, maybe they go back and now that he’s had time, he’s got an even cooler item for them, if they do him a favor.

Oh that's a great idea I like that!
