When it says you can use a crystal/orb/staff/wand/ROD as an arcane focus does that mean you can use any of the Magic items said to be one of those as a focus?
Like walk around using an [Immovable Rod] to cast your spells, for example? Same with Druidic and Holy counterparts.
An Immovable Rod cannot be used as a spellcasting focus. Some magic items, such as Rods of the Pact Keeper, do fill that role. Magic wands and staves also fit into that category.

This is not a community consensus, there has been some discussion about it and people are of different minds about it. Sage Advice hasn't cleared up the issue fully, either.

Canto alla vita alla sua bellezza ad ogni sua ferita ogni sua carezza!
I sing to life and to its tragic beauty To pain and to strife, but all that dances through me The rise and the fall, I've lived through it all!
The item type Rod is an arcane focus; it is not just any long stick. Anything the game calls a rod can be used as an arcane focus, because that is what a rod does. Saying you can’t use an immovable rod as a rod is like saying you can’t use a holy avenger as a sword.
This is true for other focus types as well, but it was the immovable rod that there was a long thread on.
Yeah I'm pretty sure any Focus can be any type of catalyst. I love the idea of a unique Focus'. I believe the book does specifically mention how a Cleric's Holy symbol can be painted on their shield and they can cast with that (I think it says that, im not sure).
So I would say as long as the item fits the orb, crystal, rod, etc category. It works!
The general consensus I've found is that you can flavor just about any object in-game as a casting focus, just as long as it's not also a decent weapon in its own right.

RAW: An Immovable Rod is a Rod type item and therefore inherits the properties of rods - including the ability to be used as a spellcasting focus.
If that wasn't the case they would have made its type "Wondrous Item" instead of "Rod, uncommon".

Magic orbs and crystals are wondrous items and say whether or not they can be a focus.
For clerics and paladins, any shield can have their holy symbol put on it.
Druids require a bit more discretion, but any wooden staff can be their focus.
The general consensus I've found is that you can flavor just about any object in-game as a casting focus, just as long as it's not also a decent weapon in its own right.
