Does the durable feat allow a player to use the average. (7 out of a d12 for example) + con not only when they roll their new hit dice when they level as well as when they long rest heal?
I personally don't interpret this feat that way but is there anything I may be missing ?
The durable feat doesn't say anything like that. It sets the minimum you are able to heal when using hit dice (like from a short rest or dwarven fortitude).
Also, note that p15 of the player handbook already says that you are allowed to not roll and simply take the average of your die when levelling up.
This is obviously, as everything else in your game, dependant on your DM,and most DM have slightly personal rules for hp increase on level up. So you should talk with him about his way to do it.
Yeah my table rules are usually you roll or average but if you roll and it sucks major garbo I give a little under average.
Ive played and been playing in a major hardcore super extreme death survival game and frankly I see what it does to players. It’s fun for a bit but it bores players soon enough. I’ve had 5 exhaustion, 5 wounds, broken both legs and an arm, had a concussion, and several weeks of healing time/doing nothing while my companions adventure and permanent madness all in one. At least in my experience it stops being enjoyable. Staying alive is fun and dying at cool/maybe funny moments is really where dying is fun and that’s it.
