Hi. I’m wondering how AOE effects someone that is inside a creature? On a giant worm and then it ate one of my companions. The DM decided my friend didn’t take any damage while inside of the worms belly. I’m just curious if this was correct and if so are there any spells you can cast on a creature, AOE or not that effect someone inside it?
Monsters that can swallow creatures usually have a line like this: "A swallowed creature is blinded and restrained, it has total cover against attacks and other effects outside the worm." Total cover means it does not take damage from AOEs either.
I think the only AoE that might affect someone inside a creature would be MAYBE spells that create a poisonous cloud that the larger creature might inhale. Maybe.
Turning it around, though, I'd certainly let the person inside the creature to use something like thunderwave to try to make the big creature garp him up...
