In the PH it says that the caught projectile is treated as a Monk Weapon for the attack. Does that mean that after the Monk throws the projectile back they then get to make an unarmed attack because of the martial arts Monk weapon bonus strike? Or is it just when you use an action?
It’s only when you take the Attack action, not just any time you make an attack with a monk weapon.
[EDIT] Additionally, Deflect Missiles is a reaction to being hit. You can only take a bonus action on your own turn, so there’s another reason you can’t do it. (I guess there’s an exception if another monk is deflecting a missile toward you that you had initially launched at them, which is honestly a funny thought; still no bonus action attack for the first reason though)

What SagaTympana said. Requires attack action, no bonus actions outside of your turn.
