I'm looking for info on a specific monster, but I don't know its name. I know that it has something similar (or straight up has it) to Life Drain, with the subtext reading something akin to, "If the character dies as a result of this roll a d6. On a 1-4 the character becomes a ghoul, on a 5-6 it becomes a ghast."
Does anyone know the name of this monster? The module has something to do with some kind of lighthouse overrun with undead.
Let's see. I found deathlock wight, vampire (probably not what you were looking for), wight, and wraith for monsters that can turn victims into undead.
Ty all for these possibilities, but alas it's none of those. I checked every single Undead monster, and while clearly there were many with Life Drain, none had this peculiar subtext about turning the PC into a ghoul, which is what happened to me. My DM didn't want to specifically show me what the monster was because he said it's storyline impacting, but I felt pretty strongly that he was misunderstanding the Life Drain mechanic, specifically the distinction between my HP dropping below zero from normal damage vs the Maximum HP dropping to zero as a result of Life Drain.

Thanks in advance!
Something similar - but not quite like that - is in the statblock of the Devourer from Volo's guide to monsters. Is that it?
I don't know if it's used in any module with a lighthouse.

Couldn't it be a Death Tyrant?
D&D is a game for nerds... so I guess I'm one :p

It could be a homebrew monster, since we don't know what module you are playing.
A couple more of note, maurezhi, nabassu.
