I commented on a post a week ago or so about the usefulness of Evocations Potent Cantrip feature. I mentioned that I thought it should come at level 2 instead of 6. One of my Players and I have been talking about this, would it break things to rearrange the order that the features come in? Specifically Potent Cantrip at level 2, Empowered Evocation at level 6, Sculpt Spells at level 10 and Overchannel stays at 14. Any thoughts?
Doing half damage on save-based cantrips is incredibly powerful, because it is the only way in all of D&D to do guaranteed damage every round without risk of failure. Incredibly, incredibly powerful ability, not something really appropriate to a level 2 character, and if available for the low cost of a 2-level investment, probably makes a Wizard multiclass mandatory for every single spellcaster not using Eldritch blast.

I'm going to make this way harder than it needs to be.
No other class or subclass has a "target takes damage guaranteed" feature that low level if at all.
I don't want to hear "But Magic Missile is a first level spell!" It uses spell slots, meaning it's not sustainable. Potent cantrip would be.
Those are fair points and puts Potent Cantrips level selection more into perspective.
