I'm going to have a situation occur in my game, and I wanted some other viewpoints on the subject. If a character were to have a memory modified, unknown to them of course, and they step into an antimagic field, do the memories revert while within the field, or do the memories remain modified? Also, if the spell is suppressed while in the field, do they revert back to their modified state when they leave the antimagic field?
Really depends on what caused the memory modification. If it was the spell Modify Memory, then no, their memories would not revert. Once a spell's duration is up, there is no magic left to nullify in an AMF.
I don't know the RAW for this, but for instantaneous spells the effects don't go away from antimagic, although this technically is duration. The spell's effects go away if you remove it with remove curse, so I think that modify memories would be temporarily disabled, but be modified again after leaving the field.
Further, AMF only affects magic that is currently happening. If you were to walk into an AMF while you were still concentrating on Modify Memory, the AMF would suppress your concentration, and that would cause the spell to fail entirely (from the spell description).
If the spell has already concluded/gone into effect, there is no longer any active magic for the AMF to suppress.

You don't know what fear is until you've witnessed a drunk bird divebombing you while carrying a screaming Kobold throwing fire anywhere and everywhere.

Actually, antimagic field does not suppress concentration, only spells. If you cast a concentration spell outside the field, then walked into the field while concentrating, the spell effect outside the field would continue.

You're not wrong; I misspoke. The question at hand is about the target of MM going into AMF, while the caster is still concentrating, which would absolutely break the spell.

I could see it being an interesting story device to have a witness who the party believes to have had memory modified placed in an AMF, whereupon their old memory resurfaces, but only while in the field. They could be questioned in there and give reliable intel, but if they leave it, the modified memory reasserts itself, and it appears they’re recanting their testimony.
However, it appears that once the minute long casting is complete, the new memory becomes as natural as any other non-magic memory, and an AMF wouldn’t undo it.

That makes sense to me. Thanks!

Also known as CrafterB and DankMemer.
Here, have some homebrew classes! Subclasses to? Why not races. Feats, feats as well. I have a lot of magic items. Lastly I got monsters, fun, fun times.
What Jay said.
