This is a topic that has come up in one of the campaigns that I am in. If a creature is concentrating on one spell and casts another concentration spell. Does the previous spell end during the casting or after? The PHB says "You lose concentration on a spell if you cast another spell that requires concentration." Does this mean that the first spell is dropped during the casting or once the spellcaster is finished casting the second spell?
From Sage Advice: "If you’re concentrating on a spell, your concentration on it ends immediately when you start casting another spell that requires concentration."

Ah. I see. Thank you for clarifying this.
XGtE gave the update to the PHB rule that the Sage Advice has that Pocketmouse wrote.
(Just in-case your table doesn't consider Sage Advice official enough.)
