So, I know that with divine Intervention, you can do virtually anything with it, so long as you roll high enough. Is it possible to have your character, as a bit of high risk high reward sort of deal, to allow the character's god to literally posses them, to defeat a VERY hard enemy?
"The DM chooses the nature of the invervention." You can certainly ask for such a boon, but it's up to the DM in the end. I might represent it by casting Tenser's Transformation on the cleric (maybe with some adjustments like damage type to fit the cleric's religion) and giving them temporary plate armor.
It depends. Divine intervention says: "The DM chooses the nature of the intervention; the effect of any cleric spell or cleric domain spell would be appropriate."
Asking a god to possess and channel it's power through you would probably kill you, frankly.
I don’t know why you’d ask the god to possess you and fight the enemy. Just ask the god to kill the enemy, strike it with righteous lightning or whatever. It’s a god. It doesn’t need to possess a mortal to do anything.
And as the other posters say, the DM decides on the intervention. It’s not up to you if the god possesses you, it’s up to the DM.
I think it was a Dungeon Dudes episode on clerics where they give good DM advice along the lines of this: "If the cleric asks their god to kill the enemy, then the god might just respond 'I've already given you the tools to be my wrath, go forth and be my instrument.'" This way, the DM isn't just telling them no, but they are telling the players that your request is unreasonable. It is a bit harsh, but if a spell effect or something on that order can't get the cleric what he is looking for, then he is asking for a lot and probably even too much.
Edit: I think Saga's solution is probably a great choice in the situation. I wouldn't even flavor it as the god possessing them, just empowering them. Maybe even make the change not cost the cleric's concentration.
"You have chosen to walk the path in my service and your devotion is rewarded. I will not take from you your own will, but instead, I shall empower you with the vision to see clearly your potential in the face of this adversary."

So basically would boil down to how bad the situation is at that point if you have to let the God possess you.

And then cast a dressed-up Tenser's Transformation as Saga says.
"Not all those who wander are lost"
Eh. Dramatic effect I is all.
