So in our campaign, we have a monk who holds onto our party's pet lizard. We are debating on the following matter: if the monk has evasion and has to make a dexterity saving throw, does the lizard, or any creature he is holding, also have to make the save, or does it receive the same save as the monk rolls? Additionally, would it completely avoid damage on a save (as the monk did) or would it take half damage?
Any equipment the monk is carrying would use the same save as the monk, seems like a pet could fall in that category. Assuming it is just a pet/only there for flavor. If someone is riding it, using it in combat or otherwise using it to help overcome obstacles, I would say it would need to make its own save, like a familiar. But if it’s just a gecko in his pocket, I’d let it use the monk save, or even just say it lives no matter what, unless killing it gives you a good story hook.

More or less what Xalthu said. Ultimately up to DM.
