I'm playing a barbarian with magic initiate, if I cast Eldritch Blast then rage would that count as me taking an attack action or would I lose rage at the end of my turn?
Just a little problem with that, is that when you are raging you can't cast spells.
Cast, then rage was the question. Good for if you encounter an enemy 60ft or so away. Charge up 30-40ft, send out a blast, then rage so that when the enemy closes in you've got the damage reduction up.

As effective as Charger feat, but better since you can make the attack and rage on the same turn. Ok, that just seems wrong that magic initiate is better than charger for a barbarian (at least in this instance, after raging being a humanoid pinball will be better).

As long as you cast it at a hostile creature, then yes it counts and will keep your Rage going.
Canto alla vita
alla sua bellezza
ad ogni sua ferita
ogni sua carezza!
I sing to life and to its tragic beauty
To pain and to strife, but all that dances through me
The rise and the fall, I've lived through it all!
Yup. "Your Turn ends and you haven't attacked a Hostile creature since your last turn or taken damage since then."
As long as you're attacking, in whatever form, or taking damage (don't forget that one) you're good.
That's what happens when you wear a helmet your whole life!

When the DM smiles, it is already to late.
